Four houses, one field: this session’s inter-house sports
A full day of athletics, the march past, and a trophy that changed hands for the first time in three sessions.
Our inter-house sports festival closed the second term with the whole school on the field and, by the look of the parents’ stand, a good part of Umuahia North with us.
The day opened with the march past, each house in its colours, and ran through the track events, the relays, the sack and lime-and-spoon races for our youngest pupils, and the staff race that the pupils enjoy more than any other event on the card.
Beyond the results, what the festival does is give every child something to train for. Practice began six weeks earlier, in the last hour of the school day, and pupils who are quiet in class often turn out to be the ones the house depends on.
Our thanks to the parents who came, who supplied water and refreshments, and who stayed to the end. We will publish the date for next session’s festival in the term calendar.
